# allocation_exceeds_balance

> Allocation exceeds the Receivable balance (HTTP 409).

## When this happens

A Payment observation allocates more to a Receivable than that Receivable's current balance. Nothing was saved, including the Payment and any other allocation in the same request.

## What to do

`GET` the Receivable, reduce the allocation to its current balance, and send the observation again. Funds that are not allocated stay unapplied and do not reduce any Receivable.
